WordCamp US 2022: Paul’s Top Picks

Our CTO, Paul Halfpenny, is heading off to San Diego later this month to attend WordCamp US. Ahead of the event, we asked Paul for his top picks from this years schedule.

Our CTO, Paul Halfpenny, will be attending this years WordCamp US conference in San Diego from the 9th to 11th of September. This will be his second WordCamp event of 2022, after giving a talk on our PersonalizeWP plugin at WordCamp Europe in July. (Formerly known as WP-DXP).

If you’re unfamiliar with WordCamp events, they are a community-led celebration of everything WordPress related and are organised in various countries around the world.

To celebrate the event, we will be publishing a range of WordPress themed articles throughout September – so make sure to keep an eye on our news section and our social media channels!

Ahead of WordCamp US 2022, we asked Paul for his top picks from the speaker schedule:

Meeting Your Customers Where They Are – How Businesses Can Thrive in a Digital-First World

9th September – 11:15am – Keala Gaines (General Manager for Payments at WooCommerce) will be discussing how commerce has evolved, the current trends in customer behaviour and expectations and how businesses can adapt to the new normal by meeting customers where they are.

Improving the Structure of a Growing Site

9th September – 14:30pm – Marieke van de Rakt (Head of Strategy at Yoast) is giving a talk on a few ways to improve the structure of growing websites, such as how to redirect obsolete pages and updating old content. This will include tips on how to evaluate categories, taxonomies, tags and internal linking structure.

Connected Commerce: Evolving to Multichannel Selling

10th September – 9:15am – Beka Rice (Senior Director of Product Management at Go Daddy) will be talking about how you can evolve an eCommerce business from an individual website to a full omni-channel customer experience.

What’s the Big IDEA? Creating an inclusive culture

10th September – 11:15am – Cami Kaos (Champion of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Automattic) is going to be taking a look at the important of creaitng an inclusive culture. This is an important topic for us and our team in particular so we can’t wait to watch this via the livestream.

A New Era of WordPress Themes is Here: Block Themes

10th September – 13:00pm – Rich Tabor (Head of Product at Extendify) will be conducting a deep dive into the foundation of block themes, patterns, templates, parts and style variants.

Content Creators Are Users, Too: The Crucial Importance of Carefully Crafted Editorial Experiences

10th September – 15:15pm – Phil Crumm (SVP of Marketing & Growth at 10up) and  Helen Hou-Sandi (Senior Software Engineering Manager for Special Projects at GitHub) will be giving a talk about the importance of editor-first content creation experiences. As well as sharing practical tips for building easy-to-use content creation tools.

A Chat with Matt Mullenweg

10th September – 16:45pm – Matt Mullenweg (Co-Founder of WordPress) will be participating in a Q&A session, taking questions from WordCamp US attendees.
