CEO
Olly co-founded Filter and has more than 20 years’ experience building and leading technology businesses. He focuses on the commercial and strategic side of every partnership, making sure the systems we build deliver measurable results. He sets exacting standards and keeps every engagement focused on outcomes.
Paul Halfpenny
CTO
Paul has spent more than 20 years designing, building and delivering software. As CTO, he leads Filter’s technical direction and delivery planning. He’s known for getting to the heart of a brief quickly and for explaining complex solutions in clear, simple terms that everyone can act on.

Ten years of technology that just works
Filter started in 2016 with a simple principle of solving digital challenges for ambitious organisations. Ten years on, that’s still how we work. We’ve grown to a team of more than 50, building, connecting and running the systems that organisations such as J D Wetherspoon, Medivet and Homeprotect depend on every day.

We’re best known for our work in leisure and hospitality, where systems have to cope with the busiest shifts and downtime isn’t an option. We also have experience working across travel, sport, retail, veterinary care, financial services, insurance, recruitment, membership, events, publishing and the non-profit sector. Whatever the sector, the challenge is usually the same: getting critical systems connected, reliable and working as one.
Partnerships
Good infrastructure depends on the right partners, not just the right code. We work with a number of platforms and providers we trust enough to build a client’s systems on.
Chief among them is AWS. We use it for much of our cloud infrastructure work, including architecture, monitoring, disaster recovery and business continuity. That closeness to the platform helps us build systems that recover quickly instead of leaving teams to deal with recurring failures.

What makes Filter different from a typical development agency?
We combine senior technical expertise with commercial and strategic thinking. That means we focus on the outcome a system needs to create, communicate clearly throughout delivery, and build solutions that remain dependable long after launch.
Do you only take on big enterprise clients?
No. The size of the organisation matters less than the shape of the challenge. We work best with teams that need experienced technical leadership, thoughtful delivery and a partner they can trust.
Do you only build new systems, or do you work with what we already have?
Both. We can design and build something new, improve an existing platform, or help modernise a complex legacy system in manageable stages. We start by understanding what is already working and preserve the parts that still create value.
We don’t have an in-house engineering team. Is that a problem?
Not at all. We can operate as your engineering partner and work directly with business stakeholders, existing suppliers or internal product teams. We adapt the way we communicate and deliver to the technical capability you already have.
Where do most engagements start?
Most begin with a focused discovery. We clarify the business goals, review the current technology and constraints, and identify the highest-value route forward before agreeing a practical scope and delivery plan.
How do we know if we’re a good fit?
A short initial conversation is usually enough to tell. We are a strong fit when the work needs careful technical thinking, honest communication and a long-term view. We do not bolt on services we cannot deliver well; if we are wrong for you, we will tell you.
