At Filter, we’re thrilled to welcome new talent. In this article, Fergus McGloin reflects on his first few months, sharing his experience of joining our team and tackling exciting challenges.

Starting a new role can be both exciting and daunting, with the fear of the unknown sometimes looming large. However, my experience joining Filter quickly put those concerns to rest. Here, I’ve found a team of like-minded individuals who share my ethos: be kind, work hard, and try to deliver exceptional projects.

An Easy Transition and Friendly Welcome

Filter’s teams value collaboration, creativity, and attention to detail. My colleagues are extremely talented and dedicated, and they are always eager to support each other. This is especially important in a remote working environment, and it removes any hesitation about messaging colleagues or jumping on a call to ask questions.

The Importance of a Discovery Phase

One of the most impressive aspects of onboarding was Filter’s emphasis on the Discovery phase at the outset of projects. Before our talented UX Designers put pen to paper, Filter’s process ensures we gather as much information as possible from a wide range of sources. This involves collecting and analysing both qualitative and quantitative data through client workshops, analytics reviews, user interviews, and competitor benchmarking. This thorough research helps both Filter and our clients feel confident that the solutions we create are grounded in solid data.

Passionate About WordPress

While the team at Filter has experience with various CMS platforms, WordPress is the one we use most. After four years working with it, I’ve been inspired by its continued evolution through its open-source nature. WordPress can now compete with any enterprise-level solution, and it’s great to be part of a team that shares my passion for it. Filter has even developed its own WordPress plugin, PersonalizeWP, enabling personalised user experiences, an important part of delivering the tailored service users now expect online.

Challenge Accepted

I’m constantly in awe of developers and their unique ability to solve even the most complex technical challenges. The technical and delivery teams at Filter embody this spirit. Since joining, I’ve seen a consistent can-do attitude and a willingness to find solutions, making my job as an Account Director so much easier! Our developers take the time to understand the unique needs of each client and craft the best solutions to meet those needs.

Looking Ahead

Reflecting on my first few months with Filter, I couldn’t be happier with my decision to join the team. The combination of a friendly and supportive culture, a passion for WordPress design and development and a focus on delivering smart, personalised and aesthetically pleasing solutions for our clients is exactly what I was looking for in a new role. I’m excited to grow alongside such passionate people and look forward to contributing to the incredible work being delivered at Filter.
