Celebrating Team Spirit at Our September Social

Our latest team social took us to London for a day of boat rides, fairground games and plenty of laughter as nearly 40 of us came together in person.

On Friday 12th September we swapped our home offices for an in-person social in central London. With just under 40 of us travelling in from across the UK, it was a great chance to spend time together as a team.

We work remotely most of the time and it suits us brilliantly. It gives us the freedom to hire the best people wherever they’re based and we know how to collaborate effectively online. However, we also know that meeting up in person a couple of times a year makes a huge difference. It helps us strengthen bonds and have some good old fashioned fun.

Setting sail at Canary Wharf

Our afternoon began at Go Boats where we split into groups of seven and took to the water in Canary Wharf. It was a mix of calm cruising and playful competition as the boats set off. There was talk of one troublesome boat throwing olives at the other vessels but for the most part it was smooth sailing. The rain made an appearance while we were out on the water but we didn’t let it dampen our spirits. With the city skyline around us and plenty of laughter and food on board it was the perfect start to the day.

From the water to the fairground

After returning to dry land, we headed over to Fairgame for food, drinks and plenty of fairground games. It was a lively atmosphere and the mix of arcade classics and competitive challenges brought out our collective competitive side. Everyone joined in and there were plenty of laughs, a few playful rivalries and a lot of cheering each other on. The food and drinks kept us fuelled and it was a brilliant chance to catch up.

Why we make time for socials

Being a remote-first team works for us. It gives us flexibility and allows us to collaborate across the world but we have always believed that making space for team bonding is just as important. We aim to host two in-person events each year along with smaller remote socials in-between. They give us the chance to recharge, get to know each other away from project work and to create memories that bring us closer as a team.

Our day in Canary Wharf did exactly that. From boats to fairground games it was full of laughter and good energy and it reminded us why these get-togethers matter.

At Filter we believe that the same culture of connection that strengthens our team also shapes how we work with clients. If you’d like to find out more about us and our approach you can explore our website or get in touch with our team.
