Last week we attended BrightonSEO, an event created especially for search marketing professionals. Keep reading to find out more about our experience.

A conference hall with large screens displaying the presentation title "10 Steps to Your Content Audit." A blue deck chair with a logo is in the center. Screens show various content and branding related to digital marketing. Attendees are visible in front of the screens.

Late last week, our CTO (Paul Halfpenny) and our Head of Business Development (Simon Cooke) headed to BrightonSEO, an event created especially for search marketers.

Industry professionals and enthusiasts travelled from all over the world to attend the many different activities available, such as training workshops, fringe conferences and general networking. Attendee’s could also opt in to some more unique activities such as yoga in the lanes, net-walking along the Brighton seafront and beach cleaning.

Today, we asked both Paul and Si to choose their favourite speaker session from the extensive conference schedule:

The Zero Click SERP – taking you closer to the money

Si chose an engaging talk from Jon Earnshaw of Pi Datametrics. Jon discussed how the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) has changed to offer users rich media from so many different sources. During the talk he demonstrated how to take advantage of Google’s priority to offer users the best choice of content across a variety of video and social channels. Jon noted that by publishing a topic across multiple channels, brands can dominate the first page from top to bottom. He also explained how the top organic spot on page 1 for a general term is not always the best option, as Google now directs users towards extended specific terms within its results, making long-tail search terms more and more valuable.

The Nine Immutable Laws of Brand Voice

Paul’s favourite session was given by Bethany Joy – brand voice strategist. Bethany explained how companies of different sizes and sectors are realising the importance of improving both their verbal and visual identity. The talk included information on 9 different principles to guide brand development, while debunking various myths and hacks.

Overall, the event was extremely useful and featured a wide range of industry professionals and interesting topics. If you’re considering attending the next one in April 2023, we would highly recommend it! Find out more or book your tickets at their website now.
