What Bitcoin Did is a tri-weekly Bitcoin podcast where host Peter McCormack invites experts from the world of Bitcoin development, investment, privacy and other areas of expertise for an engaging and accessible conversation.

Launched in 2017, the podcast has grown to over 450 episodes with some of the industry’s most influential minds.

Project Overview

The main objective was to create a new website which better connected the What Bitcoin Did audiences to their respected podcast, whilst driving growth potential through utilising technological advancements.

The new website needed to enhance the experience, making it easier for listeners to access content to further increase engagement, whilst enhancing the edit capabilities for the team at What Bitcoin Did.

It also needed to support the brands marketing efforts, including the overall SEO performance, providing more retargeting opportunities and automation options.

A laptop screen displays a webpage for "The Beginner's Guide to Bitcoin." The page features three podcast episodes with different hosts, each listing streaming options like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts. The design includes a red "Listen to All Episodes" button.
Two smartphone screens displaying the WBD podcast website. The left screen shows "The Beginner's Guide to Bitcoin" with episode options, while the right screen displays the latest episode, "Sovereign Money & Bitcoin with Lyn Alden," featuring play and download buttons.

Our Approach & Technology

As part of Filter’s Discovery  phase, we applied a fresh UX and design philosophy to the What Bitcoin Did brand to improve the overall experience.

The website was built using the WordPress Block editor at Filter’s recommendation, which completely changes the editing experience with a modern block-based approach. The blocks allow the editors to build more complex designs in an easy to maintain style.

As the podcast has a vast catalogue of over 450 episodes, it was important to find an effective solution for audio playback. We integrated a hybrid WordPress plugin which provides a compact player with a simplistic design which works well across most major browsers.

Outcome

The new website features a sophisticated and easy-to-navigate design. It will be a game-changer for the team at What Bitcoin Did, as it will allow them to add additional content to further their conversations around Bitcoin for their already engaged podcast audience.
