JD Wetherspoon Hotels offers 56 affordable, quality stays across the UK and Ireland. Each hotel is designed to reflect its local character and is paired with an on-site Wetherspoon pub, delivering great value for both business and leisure travellers.
Filter designed and built a WordPress site that showcases their growing hotel portfolio, highlights the brand as more than just pubs and provides users with a seamless direct booking experience.
Creating A Standalone Hotels Website for JD Wetherspoon
JD Wetherspoon needed a standalone website to showcase their 56 hotels individually while driving direct bookings away from costly online travel agents.
Filter migrated the site from legacy Sitecore technology to WordPress, developing dedicated landing pages for each hotel within a consistent, branded user experience.
The result is a modern, intuitive platform that not only highlights the unique character of every hotel but has also seen its user base double month-on-month since launch.

Migrating from legacy technology to drive direct hotel bookings
The existing JD Wetherspoon Hotels website presented challenges due to its legacy build, making maintenance difficult and limiting the user experience across devices.
The main challenge was that it presented a consolidation of hotel information on the corporate site, with a landing page providing only a generic overview.
This led to a less-than-ideal user experience when encouraging direct bookings and poor search visibility for individual hotels.
We built individual WordPress landing pages for each hotel, giving them dedicated space to highlight their services and amenities.
Using the Block Editor enabled flexible, intuitive content creation, while patterns and templates ensured consistency across all pages without losing each hotel’s unique character.
Choosing WordPress also meant reliable long-term support from its community and resources. The platform’s user-friendly interface made it easier for the marketing team to manage content and respond quickly to changing business needs.
The launch of the new JD Wetherspoon Hotels website in September 2023 resulted in several key outcomes.
Each hotel now has a detail page, significantly improving search visibility and making it easier for potential guests to find relevant information quickly. The website has experienced a consistent doubling of its user base each month since launch.
The dedicated website provides each hotel with a unique identity, making them more attractive to new and returning guests, while the migration from Sitecore to WordPress streamlined content management.
This project demonstrates how the right platform migration can transform marketing outcomes and reduce dependency on costly third-party booking sites.
For JD Wetherspoon, that meant individual hotel pages that drive direct bookings while being easy for their marketing team to manage and evolve. If you’re looking to transform your hotel’s website, Filter can help.
