Medivet Custom Reminders Platform

Medivet is one of the largest chains of vet clinics in the UK, and are growing rapidly year on year. With 18 24-hour centres and 300 veterinary practices around the UK, Medivet are a community of passionate veterinary professionals committed to providing truly exceptional care.

With ambition for continued growth, Medivet are aware of the need to upgrade its online offering to support their clients and to promoting its overall brand profile. As part of our continued work with the Medivet marketing team, we have most recently developed a new approach to their reminders management system.

Medivet previously distributed customer Reminders for vaccinations, treatments and alike through their Practice Management System. The process primarily driven through manual intervention of practice staff, sending a templated communication via a standard SMTP gateway.

Filter were tasked to devise a new approach to Reminders Management. Following agile and MVP principles, the team created a prototype new Reminders microservice application. The project included migrating current Reminders communications from the existing delivery protocol, to a new SMTP service, allowing for the accurate understanding of deliverability and interactions with Reminders communications.

Filter then developed a Reminders microservice, based in Azure to process files, applying grouping logic and mapping to templates to generate messages, routing to the correct delivery channel. Infact, over 100 separate templates have been configured with messages sent via email, SMS and more recently the platform has been extended to accommodate postal and appointment reminders.

The reminders engine now processes about 5,000 reminders a day. In 2019 about 1 million reminder messages were processed. In 2020 that number is likely to increase by 50%.

The volume and diversity of reminders now sent is a recognition by the business of the continuing effectiveness of work done. A high cadence release, development cycle and defined roadmap has allowed the business to gradually extend the coverage of the reminders engine to new product categories and new delivery platforms.

Oliver Morrison said “We’re delighted to be working so tightly with Medivet, taking a decoupled approach to developing platforms and solutions. Digital in these times means separate, with scalable technologies linked seamlessly in the background by data to provide a homogenous personalised experience and the custom Reminders engine is a great example of this”.
