Introduction

A Website Project for a Charity Close to our Heart

Children with Cancer UK’s legacy website had become a significant obstacle to its mission, with poor mobile performance, limited accessibility and unintuitive user journeys.

Following a competitive multi-agency pitch, Filter was selected to deliver a full redesign and build. As a family-first agency, we were just delighted to partner with one of the UK’s most important children’s cancer charities.

The new WordPress platform delivers a mobile-first, accessible experience with Salesforce CRM integration, advanced search and personalisation, empowering internal teams while unlocking new opportunities for supporter engagement and growth.

The Challenge

The website needed to serve diverse audiences, from parents seeking urgent cancer information to donors, fundraisers, corporate partners and researchers. However, users often struggled to find content and became lost in the outdated structure.

The site was outdated, inflexible in its page templates and fragmented in how it captured user data and processed donations.

Our Approach

Filter began with a focused Discovery phase, running stakeholder workshops to identify key needs and challenges. The new mobile-first design uses colour-coded sections to aid navigation and reflect departmental ownership.

A modular WordPress CMS built with Block Editor gives content editors freedom to manage pages without developer support. SearchWP Pro with Live Ajax Search improves discoverability, while Salesforce integration enables effective data capture and segmentation for better donor engagement.

At the request of Children with Cancer UK, Filter integrated with GoDonate as the donations solution on the website. The tool allows Children with Cancer UK to add donation blocks on the website and takes users on a checkout journey towards making a donation to the organisation.

Results

Internal teams are already seeing the benefits with faster content creation, more effective search and streamlined data capture.

The platform has been designed with future growth in mind, we rebuilt the shop integration and consolidated their gaming microsites using WordPress Multisite.

Performance is currently being tracked via Core Web Vitals, GA data and CRM insights to measure engagement, conversion and content effectiveness, so that our two teams can work together on implementing continuous improvements to the site.

Why This Story Matters

This project set out to create a resource that supports families during moments of uncertainty and distress, and encourages donations and event registration.

During Discovery, our teams spoke directly with parents who had experienced childhood cancer first-hand. Their insights shaped a platform that puts focus on clarity, compassion and results. Making it easier for families to quickly find vital information and support.

The new site also helps the charity connect with more people, encouraging event sign-ups and increasing donations to fund their life-saving work.
