Wendy Johnstone

Founder of Wendy Johnstone Ltd, offering Virtual Operations Support and Virtual Admin Support.

If you are looking to move your business forward and need to implement systems and processes to do this, or you have an operational project that needs managing but you just don’t have the time, then my team and I can help.

Just recently we have done a lot of work with owners who have an idea though don’t know where to start with implementation. We offer a flexible, cost-effective, outsourced solution that works around you and is proven to work.

Can you tell us about your career background and how you got to the position you are in today?
Initially I wanted to be a Home Economics teacher though I wasn’t academic enough. I then spent time working in hospitality and established I had a love for supporting people, though not the hours you have to work! I was then headhunted by Barclays and worked in Generalist HR & Learning and Development, trained as a Project Manager and led business change initiatives across audiences up to 140,000 people. I took voluntary redundancy 6 years ago and haven’t looked back!

What or who inspired you to achieve the success you have had?
My mum who is a tough northern grafter, she lost a child aged 4, had twins not knowing she was having them, then got divorced and bought three of us up single handed. Am amazing lady who always knows what to do and inspired me to make life better knowing that with grit and determination anything could be achieved.

What’s the best part of your job?
Working with ambitious SME businesses where I can add value and help them to achieve their vision.

What types of projects are you working on right now?
An online coaching platform for a coaching collaboration between 3 coaches.
Systems and process for a business where the business owner wants to retire.
Managing the day to day business operation for businesses, to allow owners to focus on what they do best.
Transitioning F2F workshops/content into online courses.
Creating a semi-passive income stream for my own business for working mums who start a Virtual Assistant (VA) business.

Where do the great ideas come from in your organization?
Generally me or my business coach. It’s usually things that I am aware of that when I think about them in a different context I kick myself for not thinking about them sooner.

What are your interests outside of work?
Reading, fundraising for local cat rescue charities and looking after our 1959 Chevrolet pick-up truck which we imported 3 years ago.

How do you celebrate success?
Personally by setting things up to work towards to buy for myself and for the team with cards and virtual drinks.

What career advice would you give your younger self?
Go with your heart, do something that you love and ensure you can make money from it.

What happens when you get stuck?
I turn to my business coach for advice to come up with alternative options, I then sense check those options with trusted confidantes and then go with what my gut says is right, my gut is never wrong!

What book are you reading right now?
Nala’s World by Dean Nicholson.

If you could compare yourself to an animal, what animal would that be?
