Can you tell us about your career background and how you got to the position you are in today?
I trained as a graphic designer originally working within agencies. I decided to do an MA in Design Management after 10 years in my career and this led me to taking on a range of transformation roles leading in-house creative teams. Having always wanted to run my own thing I finally launched my own creative agency in 2013. Now I don’t do any of the day to day creative delivery but running the business feels like my ultimate creative challenge now!
What or who inspired you to achieve the success you have had?
I measure my personal success on two things; The first is about autonomy – Do I have autonomy and freedom over the work that I do, who I do it with and where I do it? The second is about creating my own financial freedom. Its these two things that continue to drive me today and also make me want to help to create this for others. As for role models, there have been many but some of the most inspirational people for me have not been well known celebrities but ordinary people who were doing the things I aspired to do – successfully.
What’s the best part of your job?
The autonomy – that freedom of doing you own thing is second to none! But I also love running a business with a team and culture I am proud of.
What types of projects are you working on right now?
We are very focused on bringing longer term creative partnerships and value to our clients so we are helping our clients create a strong ‘North Star’ which they can use to build a strong creative brand experiences on.
Where do the great ideas come from in your organization?
As cliché as it sounds great ideas do really come from anywhere. I like the way my team and I collaborate to solve problems – we really do have a good chemistry and I know there is pretty much any challenge we can solve creatively together!
What are your interests outside of work?
I used to be shy about sharing this but seeing how Tik Tok has made it cool again and I ready to own it! I LOVE roller skating – an afternoon in Hyde Park with the other ‘quad’ skaters in the sunshine is JOY.
How do you celebrate success?
I think I am pretty bad at this to be honest. Often my mind is already setting the vision for something else before I have had a chance to acknowledge how far I have come – but I am working on this.
What career advice would you give your younger self?
Well this is a big question – there is SO MUCH young Emma needed to learn! I think I would tell her to be kind to herself and trust in the journey and that you will get there in the end.
Are you a hunter or a gatherer?
Can I be both? I think I am great at gathering up people around an opportunity to hunt!
What podcasts do you regularly tune into?
I love podcasts and audio. I listen to wide range of stuff from business, philosophy to comedy – I am very promiscuous so there isn’t just one that I recommend.
What two items would you have with you if you were stranded on a desert island?
Spotify for a never-ending supply of music and podcasts and some roller skates. Do you think there is going to be somewhere flat for me to skate?
We’re always open to meeting new connections, so if you are an agency owner or senior leader within an agency please do get in touch.
